Bought another car!

Post  whitebuffalo on Tue Aug 23, 2011 3:00 am

Was able to locate one of my "must own" cars. Not so easy finding these in the USA, but was able to get a tip from my Mini club that this one was up for sale in the Seattle, Washington area which is about 1,200 miles away from me. A shipping company picked it up and delivered it to me today bounce
It is a 1957 Austin A35. Has a rebuilt 1098 with a rebuilt ribcage gearbox. The suspension has been lowered and the rear end is sagging due to a spare engine and transmission being stuck in the rear seat as well as a bunch of spare parts.

I intend the car to be a "luxury cruiser" and will do leather interior and will paint it a sky blue (Iris blue) or perhaps a maroon/grey combination.

Sweet! I'd love to have one of those old Austins. This one is my all time favorite. It's a 1952 A30.

Very cool car. Is it as small as say my Riley Kestrel?

Unfortunately it doesn't have one, but my A40 does. Not sure I would trust my shins or arm with trying to start the car using one.

Here is a new family portrait. You can see how it looks next to my Elf for size comparison.

I received my Heritage certificate in the mail today. The A35 was built on 28 March 1957 and date of despatch is 29 March 1957 to Saul & Slatter Limited of London.
Original color was Tweed Grey with cherry red interior.

Even though the factory equipment states "Less heater" my car has a heater installed.

Fun facts to have about the car.

Update on the wee project

Post  whitebuffalo on Tue Mar 27, 2012 9:24 pm

I have been a little busy with the A35, named Leela now. I bought a large bearing 1098 engine with pocketed block to suit a 1275 head. I also have a straight cut close ratio gearbox ready to add to the car.

I am in the process of detailing the engine bay and installing new wires. I found that the rear suspension isn't just sagging, but the right rear spring is actually bending upwards. I am waiting replacement units for it.

I also procured a set of disc uprights and calipers , just have to locate a pair of disc hubs to finish the conversion to discs.
