FAO: RED RILEY

Post  Johnnypoopoopants on Sat Apr 14, 2012 9:02 pm

Hi mate,

I have been looking at your mini and some pictures you have stored online.
Can I ask a couple of questions about the seats you have fitted?

I have noticed that you dyed them, has this been a longterm success? I ask this as I have seen some seats that have been dyed before stay tacky (never cure/dry) and also the dye isn't really dye (more paint like) and it seems to scratch off.

What product did you use and would you recommend this as a viable option?

Any pointers etc that you feel could help me if I decide to go this route?

All the best
Johnny

Used this stuff: www.leatherworldtech.com
Dried completely, not tacky.
Only had problems with it coming off on areas where I didn't do a good job of cleaning the leather beforehand. Re-cleaned those spots and re-dyed.
It will scratch through just like any leather, and since it's a lighter color underneath, it will show. Just touch those spots up once in while and it's all good.
Use a good topcoat/leather protectant after allowing the dye to cure. NOT ARMORALL! I use 303 Aerospace Protectant periodically to keep things looking spiffy.
I think it's going on 4 years since I did the job and I'm happy with it.
