Cumberland green - GN35 issue

Post  Slim on Thu May 24, 2012 6:12 pm

My MK3 Elf is supposed to be the above colour (with Old English White roof.)
Does anyone know a good supplier of spray cans for the GN35 in cellulose? I have tried 2 suppliers now and what I have been given is a couple of shades lighter than the car. I know paints change with time (but they get lighter though not darker?). I have also looked at unexposed parts as well as outside and mine is darker than the GN35 from Bull Motif and Brighton Paints. Half the car is the original colour and it is that I am trying to match to. The other half was resprayed many years ago and is slightly darker (deeper) because it was 2 pack.
My last resort will be to go to a paint specialist for paint matching!!

Just found out there were 2 Cumberland Greens GN35 #1 and GN35 #2!!
Number 2 being darker hence this could the answer!
Now where to buy it because paint stockists know have lost the old codes and only show the one, I suspect #1!!

I was informed (about 3 years ago) that our E.U.Regulations no longer permitted the use of cellulose paint.
Consequently, it appears to be an offence for Car Repairers & Painters, where I live (Republic of Ireland) to use cellulose.
Does anyone know the legal position regarding this paint ?

They are allowed to sell it for restoration purposes only. So cellulose paint is actually quite widely available. Just search it on Ebay.

Having said that, celly was discontinued at the factory many many years ago. I'm not altogether certain what type of paint was actually used by the factory.
