Rear quarter panel replacement

Post  humph on Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:47 pm

I recently spotted rust bubbling along the top of the rear quarter panel on my Elf. The exact location is on the flat shelf that forms the window ledge if that makes sense, where water has got trapped between the quarter panel and the window. This hasn't holed but on rubbing down it's obvious that this section has holed before and been filled Crying or Very sad I'm looking into the feasability of putting new metal in the window sill rather than tarting back up with filler Mad

Obviously new rear quarters are not available, and I wouldn't be replacing the whole thing anyway, but if I was to buy a replacement mini part to cut up as a repair panel (like the one below) is my rear side window the same as 1959-1969 Mini or 1970-2001 Mini?

My Elf is a 1969 Mk 3.

Cheers Toga. That's a good answer as they'll be much more readily available.

There is a recent posting on here somewhere with a repair of that bit. You don't need to do the whole panel, (well, it might be that bad..) good luck hunting it down on here!

Knowing how they all go just above the sill, and often above the arches, it might be worth chopping the quarter in half and replacing the entire front half. Plus it gives good access to fix the back of the inner sill and the closer.

I've just done the rear quarters on a clubby estate, and they come as a straight side panel with no rear pillar; they have to be joined anyway. Grafting the back part of an Elf/Hornet quarter to a Mini panel shouldn't be any harder than that.

Anybody got any idea where this post is? I'm having IT problems viewing the site at the moment, see seperate thread, so am struggling to search for it.
