Wanted: lower dash pad AND heater system

Post  SAMK3 on Thu Nov 22, 2012 6:17 pm

Hi,
I need a lower dash pad. If I can find one, I'd like on in top condition for my restoration project.
Also, I'm looking to install heat in my car. I'd like a complete system, but I can try piece one together if needed. Looking for the second generation system with fresh air and the vertical control lever (mk2?).
Thanks!
Mark

Hi, are you in a hurry for the heater? I have 3 or 4 different heaters I have stashed under the floor of my house. They will far from mint and will need stripping and painting but it will be a start If you have nothing. no tubes though. Paul.

Hi, I just noticed your post. Thanks Paul. I was able to find an early heater, though not with the ears. Any chance you have a pair for the heater?

Hi from what I remember the ears on it were battered but not dented.Origanal ones have like a textured finish in like a plastic type matirial. I know this because I had to strip and paint mine in two pack and they look too shiny. If you are interested I will dig them out. Paul.

That'd be great Paul. Can you PM me a photo if you find them? Thanks!

I looked on eBay but nothing came up. Can someone PM me the item numbers?

I just received my heater unit in the mail today from Ron and it looks really nice. Hopefully Paul can dig up those heater ears for me Smile

I've been reading about leaky hot water diverter valves and was wondering if it is even necessary. My old Mustang had water constantly flowing through the heater core. You turned off the heat by closing the air vent and shutting off the fan. The Mini heater unit also has a door to close the duct... maybe it doesn't close tight enough and there is enough air flowing into the fresh air vent (and the metal housing is a poor insulator) that the heater would cook you in the summer? Am I worrying too much about the heater valve leaking?

Finally, any thoughts on authentic looking heater fresh air ducting? I'll search online and see what I find...

Thanks everyone!

Hose

Post  elfsave on Wed Jan 30, 2013 1:10 am

I will dig the Ears out. I have been looking for a hose, you can see my posts on it. Catmint do one but at £60 aint cheap but they are the same everywhere(merlin racing) apart from mini sport and spares who list them but don't have any at £23 and they don't know If they are getting more in. why they don't know is a mystery. cheers Paul.

Thanks! That would be awesome. 60 GBP is quite a lot for a hose. I was referred to this source for the ducting but they are US based. I haven't even seen a genuine Mini hose with my own eyes to help select a good match, but they seem to have a lot of options:

ears

Post  elfsave on Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:21 pm

Just been under the floor! If you want the whole thing for £15 plus Postage or a tenner for the ears plus postage. The whole thing I notice is minus the Chrome switch and the plastic knob to operate the flap, so It,s not whole is it.It weighs about 5-6 kilos so i have no Idea what the postage would be, I am in sunny Blackpool.(NOT) I will try to send my details on a personal message then we can chat. Thanks. Paul,
