Riley Elf wheel nuts, 60 degree taper type

Post  C-Field on Mon Dec 17, 2012 1:10 pm

Good day all,

I'm after a wheel nut for a Mk2 Riley elf. Or if any one no's where one can be brought from then i'd be most grateful.

Many thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,
Now, your Avatar shows you holding a pint glass on a train the only train I have been on for real ale is the Keithley and Worth valley railway and a great day out it was

As for your wheel nut, I would think any mini spares place would stock them. Also if one has stripped I should look at your studs carefully and consider if one nut strips, replace all Very Happy

Troutrunner: That is indeed the KWVR and there finest Timothy Taylors ram tam. I work on the Severn Valley Railway however we have a very good relation with the KWVR and we was on one of our annual beer inspections.

The studs fine. When I removed the wheels I replaced the nut onto the stud so I new where they where however some ones removed on and after extensive searching it's looking likely that its been placed in the bin long ago.

The wheel nut in question seems to have a longer chamfered edge compared to the mini ones, although I may be wrong.

Chris,
I spoke too quickly. It could indeed be different depending on the wheels you have on. 10 inch steel wheels will take the rounded chamfer nut, 12 inch will need the 60 degree tapered one, and mags or alloy wheels could be one of many types dependent on what type wheel.

That's probably a Morris Minor wheel nut with the different taper, I think mini/Hornet ones are the same as Austin A30/A35, I'll check in the morning and see.

The beers on the train were Timmy Taylors Golden Best a Goose Eye ale brewed for the train Cool

you'll recognise this shot then Very Happy

Troutrunner: I even no the young lass behind the bar, and the view of the brewery is a very familiar site Smile

Just to confirm which type I'm looking for now is the one with the 60 degree taper. If anyone has one in their spares box or no's where I can get hold of one then I'd be extremely grateful.

The correct nut for any 10" steel wheel is the pre-84 rounded base nut -

http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Wheels/Accessories/Nuts/88G322.aspx?200103&ReturnUrl=/search/classic/wheel%20nut.aspx|Back%20to%20search

If you are using the 60° taper type then you are damaging your wheels.
