Front Panel Swapover :
As I understand it - the full skirt front was/is unique to the very early Minis(59-63), & Hornets & Elfs (61-63).
The change to the cut-away front ( said to aid brake cooling ! ) was first seen in the Mk.2 Elf and Mk.2 Hornet.
Are you sure that your Elf is really a Mk.2 ? It could be a re-engined with 998cc engine Mk.1.

Re: front panel swapover
hmmmm this is very very strange
the vin plate is mk2. the fisholow body number is 9111 and its fitted with a 998. now, the heritage certificate says it should be body number 9103 for that vin plate, but it has a full skirt front panel on! the wiper motor is dated 2/64. also it should be blue with powder blue interior, but its grey with tartan red seats.
think its been through a washing machine of elf at somepoint. is there other ways of mk1/mk2 ident on the bodyshell?
it does look to have an original fe number though

turbochargedstu, Feb 64 car should have a full skirt front panel and dry suspension. Cut outs appeared around when hydro suspension was introduced, mid 64 if the Elf and Hornet were the same as minis. My pals 64 Hornet had a full skirt front panel and it was on dry suspension.
