Side boot boards?? If such a thing.

Post  Glenn2460 on Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:08 pm

Hi there,

I am new to the world on elf! But I was just wondering what the side boot boards are? If indeed such a thing? When I recently got elf for restoration, I found this items in my boot and at first thought they were like rusty panels that had been cut out of the car.. The main boot board is not in there though.

SIDE BOOT BOARDS :

Post  David2010 on Mon Mar 11, 2013 1:51 pm

Hi Glenn,
As far as I know, all Elfs & Hornets were sold with a wooden boot shelf covered in carpet to conceal the spare wheel / battery area
of the boot thus giving a smooth slightly raised ( by about 4 inches ) new boot floor.
This wooden shelf sat on two metal supports located on each side just inside the boot & also slipped into two metal double brackets which
were riveted to the rear bulkhead behind the rear seat.
Hope this helps....

Hi there David,

Thanks for this you have confirmed what I have thought and just realised, I wish I could post a pic to show you but one looks like its for the right side and is shaped around the wheel arch and the left one is a short stubby one because of the tank.

Thanks again. Glenn

This is what the boot board looks like, without the carpet. It's a spare, but it's in the USA, so I don't guess you could pop by and pick it up.

This is how it looks when it's in.

This is what mine looks like with the right side cut out for my second tank.
You can just see the side extension panels with the proper carpet on them.

This is what is confusing me... I believe I have this in my boot.... And if you type this number into a popular auction site. 171000204214 this was the reason for starting my thread.

Yes the US is bit to far for me in the UK haha : )

Yes, that's what those are. Are yours not attached? They are just pop-riveted in place.

Well I don't have the boot board at all in the car just found these bits and at first glance thought they were bits of scrap metal. I take it these items like you say are attached to a standard mini board (slightly longer i know) to give you the shape on the sides around well arch etc.

They're riveted to the boot, not the board.

I have one traced out on a sheet of paper that I did for someone else but they didn't want it. I'd be happy to pop it in the post.
