My Historic Rally-prepared 1963 Mk.I Elf Has Finally Gone Home :

Post  David2010 on Sun Apr 21, 2013 4:12 pm

After 15 months of hard negotiation - I've finally sold my Elf back to its original owner in N.Ireland.
It was collected last Friday and trailered away by original owner to undergo 2 months of extensive restoration ( back to a road car ! ).
I took several photos before and during its final departure from its home of the past 10 years in Dublin.
I must confess - I have not had the heart to look at these photos let alone post them here (even if I knew how ! )

David, about a year and a half ago I said goodbye to my '69 Mustang that I owned since 1989 (I was 13 or 14 yo at the time and it was a long term family project). I stood at a corner in Brooklyn, taking photos as the trailer pulled away. A bunch of people walking by stopped to watch as well. Seemed a very dramatic moment at the time but I dont regret selling it. I had a lot of fun with that car and never thought I would sell it. Now I'm in the Mini world and have a new classic car. Ha, maybe we should start a new thread of goodbye photos of our cars when we sell em.

My Rally-prepared 1963 Mk.1 Elf went home 4 weeks ago :

At long last (after nearly 2 years !) I have finally (sort of) mastered the dark art of posting pictures on our site.
My Elf, as already described, has returned to its original owner in Northern Ireland.
I am reliably informed that all the necessary restoration work to its undersides including inner & outer sills not
forgetting floor, heel board, rear sub-frame and some other work has already been completed.
The car is at present in primer.

My Rally Prepared Elf - Sold One Year Ago To-day ! :

Post  David2010 on Fri Apr 04, 2014 3:56 am

Hard to believe - but exactly one year ago to-day, I had bid a fond farewell to my 1963 (early) Riley Elf Mk.I.
We had some fabulous rally / motorsport adventures between 2003 & 2013.
This photo was taken during the Irish Trials Drivers Rally 2005 on a " Regularity " (aka Special Stage)
in the grounds of the Powerscourt stately home located quite near Dublin.
I really miss the fanatastic "buzz", not to mention the adrenalin rush that came when this little (1293cc engined)
car was let off its leash - on private property of course.
Gone but not forgotten !
