Mystery Wire

Post  TheLubeboy on Mon May 13, 2013 9:16 pm

Hi,

Doing some panel repairs on my 1965 Elf... repairing under the driver side (right hand drive) front fender. noticed someone put a huge gob of bondo and bondo-ed over a wire.... well when I took bondo I cut wire... now cant find one half of the wire!... the half I do have seems to run up and above the door towards the back of the car... does anybody know what this wire should be connected to?

Check to see what doesn't work. Sounds like it would probably be lights. Maybe a rear fog light wired into the headlights?

Colour of the wire might give us some clues?

Only on mains electric. You should try a French car, half the wires are green/yellow! In fact I once had a Citroen where all the wires were yellow but with a coloured band every 6" or so. Now that was a nightmare to faultfind! BMC are actually pretty consistent in their wiring colours.

Anyway Cheleker's right, purple/white is part of the interior light circuit.
