Oil Change Advice

Post  KevCT on Sun Oct 06, 2013 4:38 pm

I have a 1969 Austin Mini Mk3 (equivalent to the Riley Elf) which has a 1000cc standard A series engine. This is fitted with a reusable oil filter bowl with a disposable inner filter. When doing an oil change, is it necessary to prime the oil filter bowl with oil before fitting? And if so, how do you do this without creating a huge oil slick on the garage floor?
Thanks

OIL CHANGE ADVICE :

As long as you are not too sensitive about " originality " - I suggest that you switch to the more recent oil filter attachment complete with
twist on/ twist off disposable filter. This filter can be changed with the appropriate filter chain-type spanner resulting in (ideally) no unwanted
oil spills just like a modern car.
