Good Deal or Not?

Post  wcrocker on Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:53 pm

Hey Guys,

There is a 1967 MkIII Hornet for sale that I am seriously looking at, which is located across the country from me.  He is asking $6,000 CAD (about 3460 GBP).  But on top of that, shipping to get it back to my side of the country (about 6,200kms) will cost me around $2,800 CAD (about 1610 GBP), bringing the total cost to get it to my door at about $8,800 / 5070 pounds. From photos and emails sent back and forth, I have found out the following info:
needs electrical
drives and runs well
body was redone a few years ago and he says it is solid
needs interior work
missing the belt trim on left side
missing chrome around wheels (but arches are installed)
overriders missing on the back bumper

Do you guys feel the asking price is reasonable?  I have to accept that no matter what I'm going to have to eat some shipping costs, but strangely enough, I could ship a hornet from the UK for cheaper than across my own country.  Also, I see the Registration plate shows NJF 8121  does anyone recognize that number?  Are there any other items I should ask / check on?

Here are some photos:

I just realized the Reg # must not be quite right. from the photos I can tell it is definately NJF 812 but the last digit I'm not sure of.

Good Deal or Not ?-

If the underside of this Hornet is in as good shape as the body-work (as depicted in your photos) - it is probably value for money.
With that proviso i.e. No work required to replace outer or inner sills and ditto for the rear subframe and its attachment points to the heel board....
You are looking at a car in reasonably good shape for its age.
By the way the correct registration number could be NJF-812F (That final "F" representing 1968 ! - is that possible ?)
The shipping cost is the deal cruncher here ! - But if you want the car........
Good Luck & Seasons Greetings.
