Post  Kevinyoung on Sat Mar 29, 2014 10:34 pm

Hi,
I have hp just bought a 1968 Riley Elf with a full Wood and Pickett conversion, a lovely little car, what I am asking is what is the difference between the. Mk1 MK 11 and MK 111 mine is a 1968 would it be a Mk11 or MK 111 ?

Many thanks

Congratulations on your buy, what does the W&P conversion get you then? 1968 with wind up windows is a Mk3.  MK3 was introduced in October 1966.

Hi thank you for the info, the conversion gives you full leather interior, different Wooden dash and door capping, upgraded engine (1275) upgraded brakes and a stereo thats what I have found so far oh and it seems to be a MK 3 Smile

Congrats Kevin - sounds like you have bought a really special Elf.
Has it got the Wood & Pickett rear door / hatch back which is a hall-mark of their Mini Cooper conversions ?
Please post some photos - especially of the interior.

Quite unusual for W&P to upgrade to a bigger engine and brakes. Hallmark of their work was that bespoke interior (usually leather but not always) with rear companion boxes cut back for reclining seats, centre console, arm rests, wood or leather covered dash, commonly electric windows with quarter lights, often tinted Shadowlite, wheel arch extensions, deseaming, vinyl covered roof, etc. I know of another W&P Elf with wicker/wood sides and Cibie rectangular headlamps, bootlid modded to hinge in a Mini fashion and it had a Downton 998 engine.

Well mine has the bigger engine and upgraded brakes ! Lovely leather and wood interior, still has the wind up windows , no tinted windows and the outside has just been painted with metallic paint , no vinyl or wheel arch extensions it still looks like an Elf on the outside

Ahh, that explains it, it's a modern W&P (essentially a completely different company from the original), looks a lovely little motor though!

Thank you, it is a little smasher Smile, I had not even heard of W & P until I saw this car, then we did some delving like you do and saw some of the other stuff they had done, and decided to go for it, I was after a mint original Elf or Hornet, but we fell in love with this and we got it for a very good price.
