Double Overhead Cam 16v Hornet!

Post  hornetob on Fri Oct 23, 2009 11:28 pm

Hi Guys and Girls,

In a bit of a turnaround I have today acquired a 16v cylinder head which I propose to fit to my hornet as a bit of a change to the old supercharger setup (see supercharged hornet thread).

I plan to update this as I eventually make progress but the following is my proposed next steps for the conversion:

*Design and make some top pulleys to convert the cam drive from chain to belt drive

*Design and make a new cylinder head cover to enable fitment of the above

*Design a bottom pulley to drive the cams

*Sort out some kind of programmable ecu for the throttle bodies and enable distributorless ignition

*Modify the original cam to enable the drive of the oil pump

* Modify new head and block to enable fitment

If anyone has knowledge of this kind of conversion then input would be appreciated, I have already scoured the specialist components website for ideas.

I am told that the standard 16v head allows more flow than a fully ported five port head and we all know airflow=power so could be fun!

I'll keep you posted...

You should consider a megajolt setup if your going this far. Two fellow miniaddicts have got together to fit this to their minis and it gives the smoothest ride I've every experienced in a mini. it can be set up on laptop in the car and tuned to it's max
the following link gives their latest gadget in preparation for the system
This is Steves thread

The following is Gr4h4m's project
http://www.miniaddicts.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3076&highlight=megajolt

Gr4h4m has produced a few videos for miniaddicts tv including converting a Ford Fiest disc brakes to fit 10" wheels.
Feel free to join the forum (it's free) www.miniaddicts.co.uk please mention Tonyelf. You can then contact Gr4h4m and Steve direct via pm for any queries you may have.

Thank you for that, the thread is really good.

I was thinking of an emerald or dta ecu (£600 plus sensors) but can see how good it would be to try out the megasquirt (around £200!). Looks like I owe you a beer or two!

I will mention you when I get in contact
