Riley 2.6 - Radford Headlight Rims

Post  Red Riley on Wed Dec 16, 2009 11:50 pm

Does anyone have a source for Riley 2.6 headlight rims? A friend is restoring a Radford Mini and needs some. I was told once that Riley 1.5 rims worked, so I bought a set off Ebay to put on my Elf. Nope, they don't work. Anyone?

Are they different to mini /Elf/hornet rims? Try the radford register link below

Yes, they have a "visor" peak at the top.

Ahh now I see where the riley 1.5 comes in. I think they used them on the Austin Westminsters and other BMC's too?

But as I pointed out, the 1.5 rims don't work. It's the 2.6 ones that fit the Mini, due the round top profile rather than a pointed/peaked top on the 1.5.

Sorry Red-- now I see the 2.6 reference - methinks they will be as rare as rocking horse droppings so good luck on your hunt - I'll keep a weather eye out for some as the next autojumble season kicks in.

I was working with my rearmost brain cells as I remebered the peaks on a 1.5 as per::::

http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/photos-wales/riley_1.5_19.htm

which seemed to look correct...you sure the ones you tried were really off of a 1.5?!!!!!!

Cheers

alan

PS you might try a listing on the oldclassic car site as well as the Riley folks:::

I've got a set of those already. Pretty sure those are the Riley 1.5 ones. Hard to see in the ebay pics, but the top of the chrome where it meets the wing actually has a peaked profile, so it would stand proud of the wing.

They look like Hillman Minx (Series III) to me. I did have some but I cleared out all my Minx stuff.

They didn't work as in they didn't fit or they didn't match to the Radford ones? I have been looking for a set of the 1.5 headlamp bezels, like the look of them on my Elf if they fit.

If you look at the top edge of the ones I have (Riley 1.5? - maybe not), when the inside mounting bracket at the top sits in the retaining edge of the headlight bucket, the "peaked" or pointed top edge stands higher than the the top of the wing rather than being flush to the wing.

I found a set of Austin Princess trim rings and although they don't have the visor peak, they are a deeper profile than the standard Mini type and I think they suit the car pretty well.

The Princess units do look fantastic. They suit the car much better as you said. Do you still have the 1.5 bezels? If so what would you want for them?

I put a picture up of what they look like at the wing front. Not a good fit.
