Re: Rupert's Restoration.....

Well, most of you know by now that we did indeed pull an "all nighter" on the Friday before Brooklands, 21 hours continuous... but get him there we did, but he was back in the workshop for finishing off on Monday, and he came home yesterday just in time for Malvern Mini Show tomorrow.

Here are some more pics of the progress....

Elf in a bag! Ready for undersealing...

Sprucing up the engine bay...

After a darn good clean and touch up here and there. (Cheers for the bulkhead soundproofing Al, and yes I did eventually manage to tuck it behind the air filter! Razz )

Engine bay from passenger side...

Up on stilts from the front, complete with nice new quarter grille courtesy of SJ and Al, cheers!

And finally, up on stilts from the rear

So that's it!!!!

Jobs left to do....
New wipers
Re-seal the front and rear windows when I can find some that fit!!
Somehow attach the chrome trim around the door frames...
Find some better seatbelts...
Affix the boot badges..
paint the undersealed sills and inner arches to match the body colour...
Finish restoring my old dash and remove the temporary one...
Fit cigarette lighter...
Source a door switch for the Interior light...
Fit new parcel shelf when it arrives...
Fit a nice wood rim steering wheel...
and finally, find a Riley logo for the middle of the gear knob!

Nearly there!!!!

Jase cheers

Brilliant job on the resto! Makes me want to tear out my interior and redo it.
These folks can do the gear shift knob medallion: www.classiccapsule.com
They can also do some nice Riley wheel center badges for your slot mags if you haven't done them already.

Thanks Brian,

You may recall way back you gave me their details and I got the centres done for my wheels. I will go back to them for the gear shift decal.

Thanks again for your compliments on the job, and to you also Robin. Makes it all worth while. I have to say that although the back seats look great, they are not that comfortable as they are original seats recovered, but the front seats are new repro Mk2 Mini seats (recliners with head rest - had to go for comfort after my accident unfortunately) and they are really comfortable.

The only downside is that my knees now knock the original steering wheel, which I never wanted to change, but today my better half bought me a new wood rimmed mota lita steering wheel. Can't wait to put it on now!

May even invest in driving gloves next! Laughing

I suppose the nice rounding off to the restoration was yesterday...

You will all be pleased to know the "Rupe" passed his MOT yesterday with flying colours.... only one advisory point and that was to seal a weld that we missed - about 2 inches of seal! Brilliant!!!!

Oh and Trish bought me a very nice wood rimmed steering wheel for an early birthday present!

See at the shows then!!!

Re: Rupert's Restoration.....

Post  discoman41 on Fri May 07, 2010 3:53 am

Finally finished "restoring" my original dashboard, and have re-fitted it. Complements my new steering wheel nicely! Very Happy

However, the Riley centre piece of the steering wheel is cracked, so if anyone has a spare they want to sell, please let me know!

Next job.... new carpet!

Only right that "Rupert" gets an upgrade on his 'Rupert' too!

I now have a spare dash should anyone have a desperate need....?

Cheers

Beautiful dash! Well done! I have a Riley center on my original wheel on the shelf, but yours looks in better shape.

Thanks Brian.
My wheel centre looks better in the pics than in reality. Would be interested in seeing a picture of yours.....?

Hmmm... The England v USA match is on the 12th - Sat night, so unless there's a guaranteed big screen there, my attendance will be unlikely!

Bromley always clashes with something!!!! Grrr....
