Update photos

Post  Red Riley on Sat Feb 28, 2009 8:01 am

Okay, I've got the interior somewhat put together. Here's what it look like at present:

And here's a shot of the tidied boot with the new custom twin tank and boot board. Boot board carpet kit is from Newton Commercial, proudly modified by yours truly on a 100 year old foot powered sewing machine. Also, check out the new boot seal from Somerford. Way better than the nasty old door seal that used to be there.

I've just got a few things to finish up. I received a full set of Auto Meter gauges today and I'll be fabbing up a new center panel for the dash. It will look like this:

I drove the car on its first outing and picked up a first place in class. Pretty good shakedown trip, as I was on the freeway doing around 75 mph for about 14 hours! The newly built suspension settled in nicely and I just got the alignment checked and tweaked a bit today. The VTEC Elf is a very well mannered little beast!

I agree with Al, Looks great.
Are you going to "touch up" the rear seat and door cards to match those magnificent front seats?

Yes, that's in the long term plans. I'm thinking of having the rear seat recovered in a matching vinyl and possibly getting gray door cards.

I've got my new dash installed

Post  Red Riley on Sun Mar 15, 2009 7:33 pm

I decided to build a new dash based on the original to keep the classic look, but with some improvements.
Here is the old dash in all its chipped, faded glory.

And here is the new dash. I used 1/2 Birch plywood with a Rosewood stain and 5 coats of clear gloss Helmsman polyurethane.

The interior still needs a bit of tidying up, but I think it's coming together pretty well.

Conversely, I am looking to put Grey seats with red piping in Rupe with contrasting red door cards. With him being Yukon Grey I think the colour contrast will be great!

All I have to do now is find u full leather grey interior to fit! lol

Hmmm... After all the work I put into building a brand spanking new dash, nobody's even commented on it, good or bad. I'm hurt, guys....

Brian. Sorry to be so lax in commenting on the beautiful dash board. It is very impressive but my delay in the compliments has been caused by my wondering "What is the black cracked effect below?"
I also did not want to sound stupid or ingnorant or whatever Embarassed
I assume it is something to do with the Air Con?
Please enlighten us Surprised

Tony

VTEC 68 Elf

Post  discoman41 on Wed Mar 18, 2009 1:09 pm

I was too blown away by the seats to think of a comment on the dash!

I suppose my first reaction was that it was really nice but not Elf-Like, but then thinking about it the whole project is not elf-like in the true sense, but then I'm not a total purist, and I'm still thinking your Elf is fantastic!

So....yes, your dash is magnificient! Well done sir!!!

(Loving the new signature btw!)

Yes, the black plastic panel is the AC cover. I've yet to decide what to do about that. I'm thinking either paint it the same color as the dash rails or cover it with matching vinyl. After all, as you all know, these cars are never ending projects!

Actually now you mention it I do think the glossy black shouts "look at me"
Maybe a matt black finish would look better? try that first as I think a continuation of the bottom rail may be too much as well?

A very 'special' modified project indeed RR, Cool and a credit to your workmanship, build quality and attention to detail.

Really like what you have done to the dash and the modified front grills. The car looks beautiful.
Bet you dont see any others anything like it over there ? cheers
