Steering wheel restoration

Post  LOWTECH on Thu Jun 03, 2010 7:02 am

Hello everyone. Lately, I have been working on the interior of my '69 Elf. One of the worst condition items on my list was my steering wheel. I thought about purchasing a new rally looking wheel but I thought I should at least TRY to restore the original one. This is what I did. Not sure if it was proper or not... but it seemed to work for my purposes.

First of three coats of black enamel paint

Restored and reinstalled in car

I did a similar repair on my steering wheel with very good results. I used JB Weld epoxy to repair the cracks. I guess time will tell on the durability of the repair and refinish.

I probably should have used JB weld on that big crack.
