Elf greetings from Slovenia

Post  gregor.tm on Tue Aug 17, 2010 3:26 pm

Hi to all Elf, Hornet and mini fans!
it is my happy day to find this great forum!
my name is Gregor and i write on behalf of my wife. we own 6 english cars. one is mini morris traveller MK1, MK3 austin mini, classic race turbo mini and Triumph spitfire MK3 and Rover for every day use.
the last on is Riley Elf MK2 from 1965. Elf belongs to my wife. she felt in love last year when she saw Elfs and Hornets on the IMM2009 in Longbridge. her desire to own Elf beauty was growing strongly ...... so, we bought our Elf few days ago.
Elf is originaly RHD imported from UK 8 years ago. since then the Elf was secretly hidden in private collection of classic english cars and never got chance to be restored.... until now.

i will need many advices from you and i hope i will not be a night mare for you.
sorry for my bad english too. i hope you will be able to understand Rolling Eyes

here are some photos of the Elf when just arrived to our home and i hope you will like it our new little rusty.

still on the lorry:

the first washing and bathing ;-)

Welcome to the Forum Gregor. Your English so far is very good. We members of the Elf Hornet register will certainly help you all we can if you have any questions.
Your Elf looks quite good for it's age.

thank you for worm wellcome.
yes, Elf is looking much better than on the photos. body panels are still original except outer seals. there is no other welding on the Elf. under ugly grey metalic colour is still original paint.

the bad points are..... totaly worn front carpet, but that is normal. rusty rear bumper and missing overide. and there is just small amount of rear valance. 75% of rear valance is missing. i think Elfs rear end was parked in the grass for long time. rear subframe is also in bad condition.
front badge is broken. i am looking for spare one. does any one has it to sale?

some more photos of Elf finding.

the Elf was waiting for us for long time.
the place where was stored before buying was not perfect as you can see.

What a great find! It was so fortunate that it had covered storage. Looks like a good candidate for a light restoration to make a decent driver.

Hi Gregor!

Realy nice car, and lucky find! I will look around, thus I may have an Elf fornt badge somewhere.

By the way, I am NOT Gregor, but my name, Gergo means the same in Hungarian Very Happy.

thanks for comments!

here is some more progress.
it is slow progress, because i try to do work by my self as much as it is possible.

i felt big pain during the cuting the Elf.

i did not expect so much rust :-(

here is my question. is this correct position of outer sill?

next question:
does any one has a photo how it looks when the sill and bracket are welded together?

and some more cuting on RH side.

i do not understand why on the earth would any one distroy inner wing because of not be able to change brake hose?
