Rear Overriders and door seals

Post  tabitha on Thu Nov 18, 2010 9:49 pm

Hi,
Slowly putting back together our 1968 Mk3 Elf.
Just a couple of queries.
I put the rear bumper on today....are the overriders supposed to have a bracket from the bottom of them to the valance like the front ones? If so are they the same shape or has anyone got a couple knocking about they would be willing to part with? Our car was only partially complete when we bought it, so a lot of putting back together is guesswork and common sense.
The other thing is I've fitted new Mk3 mini door seals but the doors are really hard to shut, feels like its straining the hinges. Is this just because the seals are new or have I yet again fitted the wrong part??
Cheers

I couldn't get the Mini door seals to work on my "68 either. Same problem, too thick seals. I eventually ordered several different sizes of general purpose door seals from these guys McMaster-Carr and used the ones that worked best. I ended up with different thicknesses on right and left doors to get them to seal properly!

My Mk2 Elf has the same brackets front and back for the overriders.

I got all new seals from Phoenix Supplies http://www.phoenixtrims.co.uk/. The door seals were a bit tight to start with but they have eased up already and I still haven't driven it yet.

I'll get someone at work to knock up a couple of brackets for the rear!
Were the door seals you got from Phoenix for a mk3 mini, a riley elf or for an earlier mini!
Thanks again

My door seals were listed as Mk1 / Mk2 Mini. They have two versions, one has a sponge seal, the other has a curved rubber seal. Mine is the slightly more expensive rubber version which is advertised as an easier door close.

Thanks for the offer, much appreciated but......
I've taken off one of the front brackets and I'm getting a guy at work to knock me up a couple in stainless steel for the back.
Shouldn't be too hard for him with the front one as a template...its just a bent flat bar really with a couple of holes!!
Thanks again
