only MkIII's had the cut out for the air ventilation pipes, MkI and II were a flat panel across this bit, plus MKI and early MKII's had the longer front valance as per early minis

this is an example of what an early MKII (dec 62 ) front end should look like

(the holes in the valance are not standard, but additional ventilation for drum brakes)

Hi Tony

I think we are might be talking about different holes here - you should have the two big rectangular holes that sit behind the chrome grills, this was std across the range, so for a 64 car you are correct with the little round metal filter for the big air hose. The MKIII's had an extra hole between this and the indicator hole that is within the wheel arch and had a metal tube attached to pipe fresh air into eyeball vents on the dash. If you have a look at the ebay listing you can see the extra holes and this is the tube that should be attached at the back of it

I was more interested in build date with regard to the longer front valance so to give an idea when these were phased out as the build changes tend to be different from a normal mini

Cheers

Gordon

So what MK is this?

Just kidding. cyclops
I knew that I didn't have a standard front panel on my MKIII, someone home-built this one. But I didn't realize that there was supposed to be another set of holes. No wonder I had a hard time figuring out where the fresh air hose was supposed to go! I eventually designed and built an aluminum collector box that I mounted behind the large cutout. Of course that's all gone now. Don't really need the fresh air vent with Air Con!

it is a panel for a mk3 but will still fit a mk2 (the extra air intake holes for the dash corner air vents will be hidden behind the chrome front side grilles)

Mini Machine Mk3 Front Panel.

Post  autohornet on Fri Jan 16, 2009 10:59 pm

The panel on Ebay is a Mini Machine front panel for a Mk3.The problem with it is that it is flat and the original panel is curved behind the grill. It is constructed the same way as Catmint's, using a mini front panel with an Elf insert, but unlike this one, Gordon's has the correct shape.I bought this panel and a Mini Machine rear vallance from an add in Mini World but due to the problem with the grill I decided to go the Catmint Route and put it on Ebay.I think the guy that sold it is the guy that bought it off me, though he got a better price than I did! Still got the rear vallance though so it was not a bad deal.
