I asked for photos from Jan Valentino (British Motor Heritage Phot Archivist), and I received a couple of photos from the "production " version. That was all...

After some thinking, I will probably go for the following configutation.
White headlining, binnacle surround and front shelf.
Body colour blue vinyl rear parcel shelf, dashrails and A-columns.
OEW binnacle, black steering column cover.

I have already bought the carpet to re-cover the floor, boot board and side panels. Its the one on the right. Its a bit coarser and thicker than the original material but I have searched high and low, all over the world, visited many shops, talked to flooring experts and found nothing that matched it completely.

That sounds fine and dandy! There is no one who will dispute "That is not original" on any part of the car and if they do,so what? They will only be jealous of your pride and joy.

I received today my 3m x 2m sisal carpet. It will be cut up, fitted with white vinyl piping and then fitted to my car. Its quite thick, about 6mm. I worry a bit about the cetral crossmember, as I have to bend the carpet around it.

I had a look at my distributor. It is dated Dec. 1960. The plug covers are three different types, but one of them seems to be the original Champion one.

Today I got a glimpse of what my car will look like finished. I painted the shell of my model in a similar shade to mine.
I love it.
There is still loads of work to do to the model, but you can understand the general look.

Received the finished front seats yesterday. Two of the most important parts of this car. Did a trial fit today. They fit. They will stand out more when the body gets a coat of paint..

The car is finally primered. It is one of my favorite stages of a restoration, along with a freshly painted shell, applying chrome details, and the first time it starts up.

Another Beach car discovered?

Post  TONYELF on Mon May 16, 2011 12:33 pm

John, in the absence of this on the Forum I thought I would mention that in the June issue of mini magazine (page 9) there is a report of a rare mini appearing at the Florence Show in Italy. The car had already been featured in June 2010 issue of the mag. this article also says "However,if the beach car spotted at Florence is genuine, then it must be that third car. (also see website maximummnini.blogspot

That is a very interesting version. WOW. Shocked

Finally we have paint. All the underside, the boot area , the engine room and the interior have had their first coat of paint in many many years.

I started immediately to fit the first parts. Brake and fuel lines, main electrical wire and the steering rack. The subframes are going to be fitted in 1-2 days.

As with all digital photographs, its is difficult to understand the exact shade of the colour.

Today I finished assembling the rear subframe. Tomorrow morning I'll do the front and then its off to the bodyshop to fit them to the car. The car will roll on its own wheels for the first time this year.

Believe it or not the wheels and the model are the same colour!!!!!

Today I finished the assembly of the two subframes, fitted tyres to the wheels and moved the lot to the bodyshop. There I fitted the steering tube and a couple of shock asbsorbers. I found some original body colour on the steering tube so I painted it blue again.

Tomorrow with the help of a friend I will fit them to the car.

This restoration probably deserves its own section.

Very impressed at the rate of progress. You will have achieved a full resto in the time it took me to do my engine bay!

I wonder if this restoration deserves its own heading on the forum??
