Nearly there with the model. The next update will be of the finished item.

I am sure SPARK Models will make a much better effort.

Anyhow, I am enjoying myself enormously making this one-off model.

I was making the chrome handles with wire and instead of looking at the photos of the car I have on the wall, I looked at the actual items sitting in my garage. Lovely!!!

Well, the 1:43rd scale model is finished. It took a while, but it was my first custom model of this size and at the same time I was restoring the real thing.

During assembly both the front pillars broke at the top and the bottom. Also the rear section between the rear seat and the wheel split on both sides, so basically the body at times was in 4 pieces.
The front Mini section was unfortunately joined at a slight upward angle and could not be rectified.
The dash was modeled by hand from epoxy putty. The speedo is actually a front headlight.
The roof lines were made from epoxy putty as well.Thin lines glued to the roof and then filed to shape.

The car is now sanded with high number pads. Very soon it will be painted.

The body is very smooth now. I spent a good 10 minutes stroking her tight body.....

Big day today. I saw the car in colour. This is only the first coat which will be flattened before the 'real' paint. The boot, engine and interior are finished. I love it. It is a great colour, very 50's in my eyes, and it will look great with all the chrome bits and the light beige interior.

I also polished the original 12 60 coil,

and painted the whitewall on the spare wheel. Looks pretty good for a 30 year old Yokohama cross-ply. Laughing

You've made a superb job, John. I so wish I could make it to Beaulieu to see it in the flesh. Maybe catch it some other time. Good luck with the finishing touches.

Great result, congratulations !

The colour looks similar to Ice Blue (BU18), a 1964 Morris colour I found in an old Glasurit car colour catalogue I have. I painted one of my Mini's this colour. Difficult to see in pictures, but to give you an idea:

I never tire of reading this story, you deserve a medal.
There's just got to be a mass Elf and Hornet pilgrimage to see this little miracle.

Blue is extremely tricky to photograph, especially indoors and with a digital camera. i decide it was best to mach the colour with a colour scanner.

Cleaned up some of the electrical stuff.

Voltage Regulator 11 60

Dip switch 10 60

Flasher 7 60

Solenoid

The engine was taken apart yesterday.

Two of the six springs were a little taller than the rest. Unfortunately they were placed on adjacent position and not opposite.

The bearing on the clutch cover was very wonky.

The clutch plate was oily on one side and dry on the other.

The flywheel had a small mark as if a small piece of metal shrapnel had been clamped on it.

The water pump was a disaster.

The gearbox looked all right from a first look...

... so did the head

Now there is a lot of cleaning and inspecting to do. My mechanic will make a list of all parts needed for the engine and gearbox.

Looking good. Just a thought but it might be worth, if you haven't already, changing the internals of the master cylinders. I didn't on mine and they lasted about a month :-)
