Pick-ups with elf/hornet fronts

Post  Racing Green on Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:58 am

Collecting pick-up images throughout the years, a few with elf/hornet fronted ones crossed my path. If you have any more info or pics of similar modifications, just post them here.

New Zealand (looks like a cut-down elf to me ?)

U.K.

South Africa

Japan

Interesting. suppose it is easier to make a pickup out of an Elf or Hornet than a mini body but what a waste!

The NZ car does look like a chopped Elf. The S.A. car is a Hornet front end on a "bakkie" (pickup). I checked it out at the S.A. 50th celebrations in 09. The Japanese car also looks like a Hornet front on a pickup. No comment on the U.K. thing.

I also have photos of a Hornet front on a Van from a German meet in 1999. Looked good that way as do the pickups with the Elf/Hornet front.

I've thought that it would be interesting to go the opposite route and make an Elf Estate with proper Elf taillights.

The UK one looks like a mini pickup with an elf nose welded on as can see the fuel filler insert just behind the rear arch.

very strange and dont see point myself but hey at least its not in a scrappy Smile

Er... it wouldn't be a clubby with an E/H nose would it? Anyway you can get roundnose estates. Don't make the BMW mistake of thinking Clubman means estate!

(I have 3 Clubbys and only one's an estate).

Must say I like the sound of an Elf estate though - I think, to look right, it would need a rear end along the lines of an ADO16 estate, and that would be quite a challenge.

I know a clubby aint an estate only Smile

clubby generally has a slightly longer nose?
my mate has a clubby traveller, is bright yellow.

and agree on the ADO16 style rear on the estate with elf/hornet nose Smile

Why not just put a Elf/Hornet bonnet on a mini estate ?
I have toyed with idea of putting my spare Elf bonnet on the van!

For those who have missed the Dutch van on top of the topic linked in the first post:

Chelecker has provided a better pic of the SA one, thanks for that:

Cool! It's a stronger bonnet with the ribs and the top third could house an air scoop direct to the carb for the F.A.R.T system (fresh/forced air ram technology. before someone gets the wrong picture!)

lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!

I Like it - can't quite see it catching on with manufactures though -"The all new MINI COOPER WORKS with F.A.R.T" just does not quite cut it on the sales front to me some how

Back on the subject of changing fronts onto other variants - how about an elf fronted/booted broadspeed style GT ?

Gordon, I did this mock up a while back to see how a Hornet/Elf based Mini Sprint type car would look.

very Led Sled - could work well if done carefully, though I think I would have to cut four inches off my legs as well as the car to fit in
