The bits that are there aren't looking too bad. Good work!

Rusty now upside down!

Post  Big_Al_Smith on Sun Jan 25, 2009 9:21 pm

The legend that is Rusty has now been tipped over completely for yet more welding to the inderside!

P.s. please excuse the state of the garage! And the chap in the picture is good old Ray Paterson, for those who don't know him - he's a bit of a legend too!

You need what my son in law has. It's a appropriate sticker on his 4x4 which is upside down and reads "if you can read this , Please turn me over" Smile
Seriously though it's looking good

Roof Rack! That's an idea!
I have been thinking of making my own "spit" to turn the mnivan over but if there are enough friends around to help me turn it over I might just do the rack. cheapest way out? (it will eliminate the possibility of denting the roof)
I might even think of fitting some wheels to the rack so I can move it around.
On reflection It may also keep the body "straight"
Has anybody else got any thoughts on this?
"Spit OR Rack" ! (Sounds digusting! LOL ) Twisted Evil

Well, I'm not an expert and I have limited experience with this. That being said, the engineers who designed the body took certain stresses into consideration and I'm not at all certain that the stress of having the car sat on its roof was one of them. They did however design the car to be "spitted" while being worked on at the factory. So not being an engineer myself, I would tend to trust the experts and use a rotisserie if I needed to spin my car on its head.

Good point.
The roof rack limit is around 135 lbs and the body is certainly more than that.
And on the other point about the spit . The elf has a hole in rear of back seat and the centre console clock hole in the bulkhead is the same size which I understand was to put a telegrah pole sized pole through for this very purpose!
The advantage of the spit is it can be man handled on ones own to the exact position you want. The shell has to be naked, that is completley nude of any heavy components so that it is perfectly balanced in any position.

Not looking too rusty any more. You might have to start calling him "formally known as Rusty"
Anyway, the roof looks nice and shiny, and green. I hope that's the color you had in mind. lol!
